Artist

Juan Miguel Benito is a Spanish abstract painter. His work is born of a need to express and clarify inner thoughts and emotions: the catalogue Perspectivas (2024) traces the origin of this impulse to Valdecaballeros, a small village in Extremadura, in an early period marked by wonder and astonishment at a talent that seemed to emerge almost by surprise. Since then, painting has been for him a way of thinking out loud: each work maps the state of a particular way of looking at the world at a given moment, moving from an initial clarity toward emotional complexity and, later, colour. A year later, AMOR (2025) continued this journey as an emotional diary in four phases —the wound, reflection, acceptance and love— tracing the end of a relationship through to rediscovering, this time, love for oneself. Today, Juan Miguel is pursuing a new visual language rooted in minimalism and in the interplay of independent elements that, together, form a whole.

The 4 principles

«The synergy between the viewer’s curiosity and the artist’s essence is what turns a painting into a work of art.»

&

«In art there are no mistakes, only new opportunities.»

&

«A work becomes magnificent when it faithfully represents what its creator feels.»

&

«Multiple possibilities enrich the meaning of a work, while imposing a single meaning limits its full potential.»

Manifesto

My work is born of the need to explore and portray what forms part of our most intimate experience: doubt, love, crisis, curiosity, and the thoughts and emotions that so often remain hidden. Through art, I seek to create an honest space for introspection and connection, where each person can feel reflected, understood, and free to interpret what the soul usually keeps silent.

Beyond the canvas

Beyond the canvas, Juan Miguel Benito is a multifaceted profile that resists a single label. A physiotherapist by training, with five years of clinical experience in sports traumatology and the rehabilitation of high-performance athletes, he founded his own brand —Dehot Brand— and a home physiotherapy service before steering his career toward health innovation, today specialising in applied artificial intelligence and intervention within the healthcare ecosystem.

That same impulse —to observe, learn, analyse and feel before acting— also underpins his two other, quieter disciplines: that of the endurance athlete and marathon runner, accustomed to sustaining effort once nothing is left but willpower; and that of the self-taught pianist, who learned out of pure curiosity to translate into keys what he had previously only known how to translate into lines of ink.

Trilingual (Spanish, English and French) with an international background —studies at the University of Liège, business development within French-speaking teams—, Juan Miguel does not see painting as an exception to his career, but as one more extension of that same outlook: that of the clinician who observes before acting, the entrepreneur who builds from nothing, the athlete who sustains effort over time, the musician who learns for the simple pleasure of learning, and the artist who, in the end, translates all of it into a single line of ink on paper.
